The Berkeley College New York men's soccer team ended its five game losing streak on Wednesday evening, defeating the Warriors of Vaughn College by a score of 4-0 in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, NY. With the victory, the Knights improved to 5-7 on the 2014 campaign, and 3-1 in HVIAC competition. Vaughn fell to 2-5 overall, and 2-3 in the conference.

Berkeley - which had been having a boatload of trouble scoring goals with just three tallies in its past six games - had no problems finding the net in this one. The Knights used four goals in the opening session to cruise to a convincing victory.

Standout Shonoray Ryan got the scoring started for the Knights as he collected a cross from teammate Haakon Schjeldreup and slipped a ball past Vaughn College goalkeeper Eddie Brito to give his a team a 1-0 lead just 4:03 into the game. A little less than six minutes later (at 9:55), Schjeldreup received a pass on a free kick from Sebastien Rousseau and buried a ball into the net to give his team a two-goal advantage.

Jean Lombard added to Berkeley's lead in the 41st minute (at 40:12) when he took a cross from Ryan and blasted the ball into the net to give the Knights a 3-0 edge. Mathias Vallecapped the scoring for Berkeley when he netted a goal at 43:21 (assisted by Ryan) to push the Knights' lead to 4-0. Those four goals would be all the Knights would need on the evening, as Berkeley held on to win by that exact score.

Renzo Loaiza picked up a shutout in net for the Knights, making just three stops behind a stellar Berkeley defense. The Knights held a 22-10 edge in the shots category for the night.

Berkeley received five corner kicks to Vaughn College's three, and the Warriors were whistled for 16 fouls while the Knights committed 13.

The Knights will return to action on Saturday morning as Berkeley will take the University at Maine-Fort Kent at Randall's Island. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 10:00am.
