NEW ROCHELLE, NY – In a rematch of last season's HVIAC Tournament Final, The College of New Rochelle showed that the road to this year's title runs through the defending champions, as the Blue Angels posted their school record 10th consecutive win, posting a 3-0 win over St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn tonight at the Wellness Center. The last nine wins for CNR have all come in straight sets.

Meghan King (New City, NY) tallied a match-high 14 kills to pace the CNR offense, while Fabiola Padilla Rios (San Juan, PR) added a double-double with 10 kills (posting an outstanding .500 hitting percentage) and a match-high 17 digs. Melanie Lopez Soto (Gurabo, PR) handed out a match-high 23 assists, adding nine digs.

Lauren GaNun has eight kills and eight digs for St. Joseph's.

CNR came out of the gates with a full head of steam to open the match, earning the first eight points, and 14 of the first 15, to take a commanding 14-1 lead. Five different Blue Angels recorded kills in the run, with three coming from King. The Lady Bears drew to 15-6 before CNR eased to a 25-13 win.

The second set did not prove to be as one-sided, despite an early 4-1 lead from the Blue Angels (with King again scoring the first two points of the set off kills). St. Joe's rallied to tie the score at 4-4 and 5-5, and trailed by only 1, 8-7, before a 9-3 run pushed the lead to seven, 17-10. The Lady Bears put together another run, pulling to within 2 at 22-20, but three straight ended the set, 25-20.

King set the tone once again in the third set, smashing home the first point before the Lady Bears scored five of the next six to take a 5-2 lead. The lead proved to be short-lived as CNR rallied to knot the score at 6-6 before using an 11-0 run to turn a 7-7 tie into an 18-7 lead en route to a 25-15 win.

The Blue Angels return to action on Saturday, traveling to Danbury, CT to take on UMass-Dartmouth and Western Connecticut State in matches starting at 2 and 4 p.m. respectively.
