BROOKLYN, N.Y.—Despite double-double efforts from juniors Lauren GaNun (Breezy Point, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall) and Anna Carbone (Ozone Park, N.Y./Mary Louis), the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team suffered their second league defeat falling to The King's College (N.Y.) in straight sets, 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-20), on Wednesday evening in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Brooklyn Technical High School.

GaNun paced the Lady Bears (3-6, 0-2 HVIAC) with a match-high 15 kills and team-high-tying 13 digs for her third double-double of the season. Carbone recorded her second career double-double dishing out 16 assists with 12 digs. Senior Jennifer Moncino (Ridgewood, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) matched GaNun on defense with 13 digs and added five kills and three aces.

King's (4-5, 2-2 HVIAC) was led by Alexandra Rollis with 13 kills and nine digs. Kelli O'Donnell added nine kills and a match-high 20 digs.

The visiting Lady Lions controlled the first two sets with wire-to-wire set victories. In the second stanza, a 7-1 run sparked by three straight Rollis aces gave the visitors broke open a 12-13 set and the Lady Bears attempt at a late run would fall short.

In the third, St. Joseph's found their first lead of the match before a 7-1 King's run erased the advantage. But the Lady Bears hung tough and neither team would build more than a two-point advantage until 19-19. The Lions then rolled off three straight points on the Rollis service and held on to close out the match for their first victory over the Lady Bears in three meetings.

St. Joseph's heads to Massachusetts this weekend for a tri-match at Regis College also playing Pine Manor College on Saturday at 1 p.m. Live stats for both matches can be found on SJCBears.com.
