Men's Tennis: Sarah Lawrence 8, Webb 1

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.–Winning the program's first-ever Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match, Sarah Lawrence College men's tennis dismissed Webb Institute, 8-1, at Andrews Courts on Saturday.
 
Sarah Lawrence (1-3, 1-0 HVIAC) started the day with a clean sweep of Webb (0-1, 0-1 HVIAC) in the doubles matches. Senior Nate Currier (San Rafael, Calif./The Branson School) and junior Elliott Warkus (Waimea, Hawai'i/Parker School)made quick work of the No. 1 match, winning eight straight games en route to a 10-1 victory.
 
At No. 2 doubles, junior Adam Neufeld (Bronx, N.Y./The Calhoun School) and senior Andrew Thurman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston School) broke open a 5-2 advantage and held on to win, 8-4. The No. 3 pair of rookies Ben Dougherty (Brooklyn, N.Y./The Beacon School) and Jonah Blake (Newport Beach, Calif./Spanish River (Fla.)) picked up their first career win, 8-6, securing the doubles sweep.
 
In singles action, Currier broke serve early in the No. 1 match, and he won eight games in a row for his first individual win of the year, 10-1.
 
Warkus won his fourth match in as many days, winning eight consecutive games to take the No. 2 match, 10-1. The No. 3 singles match saw Neufeld win the last seven games of a 10-2 triumph.
 
Thurman won the first three games of his No. 4 singles match and cruised to a 9-4 edge. His Webb opponent fought back and tied the match, 9-9, before the Gryphon won the final three points of the tiebreaker, 10-9 (7-3).
 
Blake got his first career singles win, 8-4, in the No. 5 singles match. At No. 6, Webb collected its only point, 8-1, with Gryphon Jack Bell (Washington, D.C./British School of Washington) falling in his second career match.
 
Sarah Lawrence hosts HVIAC foe Culinary Institute on Sunday at 1 p.m.
