Men's Tennis: Sarah Lawrence 9, St. Joseph's 0

EASTCHESTER, N.Y.—Picking up the team's first shutout victory of the season, Sarah Lawrence College men's tennis swept St. Joseph's College Brooklyn, 9-0, in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at SPORTIME Lake Isle on Tuesday.

Sarah Lawrence (2-6, 2-1 HVIAC) started off the match by winning all three doubles matches. In the No. 1 spot, Gryphon senior Nate Currier (San Rafael, Calif./The Branson School) and junior Elliott Warkus (Waimea, Hawai'i/Parker School) won their second league match, sweeping their opponents, 8-0.

At No. 2 doubles, junior Adam Neufeld (Bronx, N.Y./The Calhoun School) and senior Andrew Thurman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston School) won, 8-1, to pick up their third victory in the last four matches. Rookies Jack Bell(Washington, D.C./British School of Washington) and Aidan O'Brien (Mansfield, Conn./Edwin O. Smith) rounded out the pairs matches with an 8-5 win in the No. 3 slot.

Sarah Lawrence kept St. Joseph's (0-6, 0-1 HVIAC) off the scoreboard with a clean run through the six singles positions.

Currier picked up his first individual shutout, 10-0, with a win in the No. 1 singles match. At No. 2, Warkus triumphed 10-5, while Neufeld came away with the win at No. 3, 10-1. All three Gryphons improved to 3-0 against league opponents.

In the No. 4 match, Thurman snapped a skid and earned a 10-7 victory. Rookie Jonah Blake (Newport Beach, Calif./Spanish River (Fla.)) survived to take the No. 5 match, 10-8, for his third win in his last four matches. At No. 6, senior Luke Hammerman (Westport, Conn./Staples) rounded out the lineup with a 10-0 win in his season singles debut.

Sarah Lawrence travels to face HVIAC foe Vaughn College on Thursday. The Gryphons then travel to Lehman College on Saturday.
