Men's Tennis: Sarah Lawrence 8, Vaughn 1

FLUSHING, N.Y.—The Gryphons picked up their second straight win as Sarah Lawrence College men's tennis defeated Vaughn College, 8-1, in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Thursday.

Sarah Lawrence (3-6, 3-1 HVIAC) began the match with a nearly perfect start, yielding just one game in three doubles wins. At No. 1, senior Nate Currier (San Rafael, Calif./The Branson School) and junior Elliott Warkus (Waimea, Hawai'i/Parker School) blanked their opponents, 8-0, for the second time in as many matches.

In the No. 2 doubles match, junior Adam Neufeld (Bronx, N.Y./The Calhoun School) teamed with rookie Jonah Blake(Newport Beach, Calif./Spanish River (Fla.)) for the first time this season, and the duo captured an 8-1 victory. The No. 3 pairs match saw rookies Aidan O'Brien (Mansfield, Conn./Edwin O. Smith) and Jack Bell (Washington, D.C./British School of Washington) win their second match as a pair, 8-0.

In singles action, Currier won his third straight match in the No. 1 position, 10-5. Warkus improved to 4-0 against league opponents with a 10-3 win in the No. 2 singles match.

At No. 3, Neufeld picked up his fourth win of the week with the day's only individual shutout, 10-0. In the No. 4 match, Blake won his third consecutive match, 10-2.

Rookie Ben Dougherty (Brooklyn, N.Y./The Beacon School) picked up his first collegiate singles win in his second match of the year, earning the Gryphons' sixth point, 10-4, in the No. 5 slot.

Vaughn (0-5, 0-3 HVIAC) scored its only team point with a 10-7 win in the No. 6 match.

Sarah Lawrence returns to the road on Saturday with a match at Lehman College.
