CORONA, NY -- The Pratt Institute men's tennis team remained undefeated in HVIAC play, upending Webb Institute 5-4 at the USTA Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
In No. 1 doubles, the tandem of Rongxin Zhang and Ben Erickson easily won their match by a score of 8-1. Hubert Chen and Simon Salazar followed suit in No. 2 doubles, dispatching the Webbies 8-2, giving the Cannoneers a 2-1 edge heading into singles play.
Erickson and Zhang both took their singles competitions, allowing Pratt to open up a 4-1 lead. Following a close loss by Chen in No. 3 singles (11-10), Simon Salazar secured victory for the home team with a dominant effort against Webb's Kevin Richard by a score of 10-2.
With the win, Pratt levels their overall record at 2-2 (2-0 HVIAC). The loss drops Webb to 1-2 (0-2 HVIAC).
The Cannoneers continue their conference slate tomorrow against Culinary Institute of America at 1:00 pm at the USTA Tennis Center.
