Women's Basketball: New Rochelle 71, Pratt 36

BROOKLYN, NY – In its Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) opener, The College of New Rochelle cruised to a 71-36 road victory over Pratt Institute tonight at Pratt's Activities Resource Center. 
 
CNR (3-1, 1-0 HVIAC) was led by Alyssa Pechin, who scored a game-high 19 points while handing out a game-high six assists.  Jah-Leah Ellis added 12 points and a game-high 18 rebounds.  Indigo Flowers chipped in with 10 points and seven caroms.
 
Carol Cai paced the Cannoneers with 18 points and nine rebounds.
 
The Blue Angels forced 30 Pratt turnovers, converting them into 27 points and won the battle of the boards, 51-37.
 
Pratt (0-2, 0-2 HVIAC) scored the first basket of the game, but the Blue Angels responded with a 10-0 run to take 10-2 lead with 14:51 left in the first half.  After another Cannoneer basket, another big run from CNR, this time 19-0, to take a 29-4 lead with 5:40 left before the break.  The Blue Angels took a 43-16 into halftime.
 
The second half was played more evenly, with both sides playing all active players.  CNR outscored Pratt 28-20 over the second 20 minutes.
 
Next up for the Blue Angels is the Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament, hosted by Medgar Evers College.  CNR, the defending champion, takes on College at Old Westbury on Saturday, November 29 at 6:00 PM.

BROOKLYN -- The College of New Rochelle controlled the boards with a 51-37 rebounding advantage in its 71-36 win over Pratt Monday night in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Confernece play at the ARC.

Blue Angels guard Alyssa Pechin led all scorers with 19 points in 20 minutes, hitting 3-5 from three-point range. Jah-Leah Ellis anchored New Rochelle's rebounding advantage with a double-double of 12 points and a game-high 18 boards as CNR improved to 3-1 (1-0 HVIAC).

For Pratt, Carol Cai led the team with 18 points, nine rebounds and a game-high five steals. Fellow sophomore Hannah Calderwood hit 6-14 from the field for 15 points to go along with eight rebounds and two steals as Pratt fell to 0-2 (0-2 HVIAC).

Cai gave the Cannoneers a 2-0 lead with an eight-foot jumper from outside the block, but all five Blue Angels starters scored in an ensuing 10-0 run. Another Cai jumper snapped the run, but New Rochelle then rattled off a 19-0 run spanning over 13 minutes.

Maria Castillo jumper followed by a Calderwood three-point play brought Pratt to within 41-15 late in the first, and Pratt went into halftime trailing 43-16. New Rochelle's Ja'Nasha King and Pench each knocked down triples out of the intermission, and Caitlin Harrison's layup later increased the Blue Angels lead to 69-30. Calderwood and Cai combined to score six of the game's final eight points, but the defending HVIAC Champions left Brooklyn with a 71-36 victory.

For Pratt, Ginnelle Sparkman chipped in with six rebounds, tying with fellow guard Sophie Erb for team-high honors with three assists each.

The Cannoneers return to play Thursday, December 4 in HVIAC play against Vaughn College.
