NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Chelsea Thomas converted a layup with two second left to propel The College of New Rochelle to a 68-67 HVIAC victory over Yeshiva University Tuesday night at the Wellness Center.  Blue Angel seniors Jah-Leah Ellis and Alyssa Pechin were honored prior to the game.

Trailing by one and looking for the final shot, Pechin drove the lane and found a wide open Thomas on the right side of the basket for the winning field goal.  The Maccabees inbounds pass was deflected after the basket, giving CNR (10-7, 3-1 HVIAC) the important conference win.

Yeshiva (3-14, 2-4 HVIAC) opened the game in an offensive rhythm, opening up a 10 point lead, 14-4, after eight minutes of play.  The Macs held the lead at 10, 28-18, with 2:42 left in the opening stanza before the Blue Angels found their stride offensively, running off an 8-2 spurt to go into the locker room trailing by just four, 30-26.

The Blue Angels extended the run to 24-4 over the first five minutes of the second half, opening up a 10 point, 42-32, lead of their own.  In a game of changing momentum, Yeshiva responded with a 15-5 run of its own to knot the score at 47 with 10 minutes to play. The game was a see-saw battle the rest of the way until Thomas' dramatic layup ended the scoring.

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.— The Yeshiva University women's basketball team lost a heartbreaker in the closing seconds as the Maccabees fell to the College of New Rochelle (CNR) 68-67 in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) showdown Tuesday evening.

The heartbreaking loss by the Maccabees, eliminates them from 2015 playoff contention. They end the HVIAC portion of their schedule at 2-4 and are now 3-14 overall. The College of New Rochelle is now 10-7 overall and 3-1 in the HVIAC.

In a game that saw nine lead changes and five ties, Yeshiva took its final lead with thirty-three seconds left on a jumper by Julia Owen to make the score 67-66.

Missed free throws in closing seconds by both teams caused the game to remain a one-point Yeshiva lead. The host Blue Angles went to the free throw line with eighteen seconds left and missed both foul shots. After the second free throw missed, CNR got the offensive rebound and drew another foul to go to the line for another pair of free throws. The Blue Angles missed both of those as well. CNR got another offensive rebound and failed to put the go ahead shot in with fourteen seconds left. Yeshiva then got a rebound and was fouled. But the Maccabees missed the front end of a one-and –one to give CNR another shot at the lead. The Blue Angels' Chelsea Thomas then connected on a lay-up with two seconds left to put CNR back ahead. Then out of a Yeshiva timeout, the Maccabees could not get a final shot off as CNR escaped with the narrow win.
