NEW YORK, NY – Pratt Institute women's soccer team earned their third win in four games by toppling the Blue Angels of New Rochelle, 6-1, in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at Randall's Island on Friday evening. With the result, Pratt moves to 3-4, while New Rochelle drops to 1-2.
Following a slow-moving first 30 minutes, the Cannoneers offense broke through, as Brittany Lovegrove's free kick found an unmarked Katherine Shan in the 32ndminute to give Pratt the lead. Looking for more, Pratt's offense pushed forward, but shots by Lovegrove and Carlyle MacDonald were saved as the Cannoneers finished the first 45 minutes up 1-0.
As play resumed, Jen Klockner increased the Pratt lead via a long solo run through the Blue Angel defense before hitting home a shot past the keeper in the 53rdminute. Four minutes later, Shan would race down the right wing, cut through the box and place a right-footed touch into the net to make it 3-0 Pratt. Minutes later, Harper McVey would gather a loose ball at midfield and race through the center back before beating the keeper 1-on-1. Shan would add to her tally in the 69th minute, taking a Klockner cross in stride and punching it home. A final Shan goal, her fourth, would come curtesy of a long run in the 71st minute, giving Pratt five goals in 18 minutes en route to their first HVIAC conference win in the program's history
For the match, the Cannoneers outshot New Rochelle by a 20-5 margin, including a 14-3 advantage in the second half. Perhaps overshadowed by Shan's impressive night, was the all-around play of midfielder Jen Klockner, who collected a goal and an assist while placing three shots on target.
Afterwards, coach Worth had nothing but praise for the senior's leadership and what it has meant for Pratt soccer.
"She is a leader. That has been clear from the moment we started this program and will be true till the final game, which we hope will be in the post season."
