Women's Tennis: Sarah Lawrence 9, Vaughn 0

FLUSHING, N.Y.—The Gryphons swept all nine matches without yielding a game, as Sarah Lawrence College women's tennis blanked Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology, 9-0, in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Wednesday.

For Sarah Lawrence (3-1, 1-0 HVIAC), rookie Sarah Pyatt (Taos, N.M./Taos) made her doubles debut with sophomore Nora Landes (Los Angeles, Calif./Cleveland Humanities Magnet) in the No. 1 position, winning the match 8-0.

In the No. 2 doubles match, sophomores and 2012 HVWAC champions Lane Garber (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) and Sarah Fiordaliso (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) cruised to an 8-0 win of their own. Rookies Autumn Atkinson (Manasquan, N.J./George School) and Juliet Slade (St. Paul, Minn./Central) won the No. 3 match, 8-0, to earn their fourth win in as many matches.

In singles play, all six matches went the way of the Gryphons by a 10-0 margin in the pro-set format. Landes triumphed in the No. 1 position, while rookie Juliet Slade (St. Paul, Minn./Central) won the No. 2 match in her collegiate debut.

Fiordaliso picked up the win in the No. 3 slot, while rookie Caroline Harrison (Galloway, N.J./Absegami), playing for the first time at the No. 4 position, also came away victorious.

At No. 5, Cecilia Ross (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) notched her first win of the season, and Moni Spancheska (Skopje, Macedonia/NOVA International) rounded out the lineup with a win at No. 6 in her first collegiate match.

Vaughn (0-1, 0-1 HVIAC) lost its season opener for the third-straight season.

Sarah Lawrence women's tennis heads north for the weekend. The Gryphons play at Bard College on Saturday at 1 p.m. before heading to Mount Saint Mary College for a Sunday match, also at 1 p.m.
