Women's Tennis: New Rochelle 9, St. Joseph's 0

FLUSHING, NY – The College of New Rochelle earned their first win of the season, toppling HVIAC foe St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn, 9-0, today at the United States Tennis Center.

The highlight of the match came at #5 singles, as Kendra Michel overcame a 6-1 deficit to earn a 10-8 win.  Michel teamed with Samantha Gomez at #3 doubles to earn her second win of the day, 8-1.  Gomez posted a 10-0 win at #6 singles.
 
Deanna Tozzo and Zarie Ansari combined at #1 doubles to post an 8-0 win. Tozzo (10-4) and Ansari (10-5) posted wins at #1 and #2 singles as well.

FLUSHING, N.Y. – In their opening game of Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) play, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team suffered a 9-0 setback to The College of New Rochelle on Sunday afternoon at the USTA Billy Jean King National Tennis Center.

The Lady Bears (0-4, 0-1 HVIAC) dropped their fourth straight match to open the season while the Blue Angels (1-2, 1-1 HVIAC) notched their first victory of the season.

St. Joseph's played hard-fought matches from top to bottom despite many Lady Bears playing up a flight, but failed to notch a point on the afternoon.

Freshman Mary Edward (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) turned in the closest match of the opening singles matches, edged by a break, 10-8, at No. 5 singles.

Freshman Samantha Rossi (Bayside, N.Y./Mary Louis) grinded out a 10-5 loss at No. 4 singles while senior Kelly McNamee (Glendale, N.Y./Mary Louis) and sophomore Deirdre Lavelle (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall) dropped 10-4 decisions at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively.

In doubles action, Rossi teamed up with fellow freshman Madeline Moravek (Whitestone, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) and fell 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.

The Lady Bears return to action on Wednesday, October 2nd hosting John Jay College at the National Tennis Center. The non-conference matchup is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
