Women's Tennis: Sarah Lawrence 9, New Rochelle 0

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—In the team's third sweep of the season, Sarah Lawrence College women's tennis shutout College of New Rochelle, 9-0, in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at Andrews Tennis Courts on Wednesday.

In doubles play, Sarah Lawrence (5-6, 2-1 HVIAC) made quick work of the Blue Angels. SLC's No. 3 pair of Autumn Atkinson (Manasquan, N.J./George School) and Juliet Slade (St. Paul, Minn./Central) picked up their fifth shutout win of the season, 8-0.

At No. 2 doubles, defending league champions Lane Garber (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) and Sarah Fiordaliso (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) picked up their conference win of the season, winning the last seven games in an 8-1 victory. SLC's top pair, Nora Landes (Los Angeles, Calif./Cleveland Humanities Magnet) and Kayla Pincus (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights), scored a break point in the second game and another in the final game of an 8-4 triumph.

Pincus earned the Gryphons' fourth point with a shortened win in the No. 2 singles match. Rookie Moni Spancheska(Skopje, Macedonia/NOVA International) captured the match-clinching point by winning the first five and last five games in a 10-1 win at No. 6 singles.

In the No. 3 spot, Reigning HVIAC Rookie of the Week Atkinson won 10 straight games to earn a 10-1 win. Senior Cecilia Ross (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) earned her third straight shutout, taking the No. 5 match, 10-0.

SLC's No. 1 player, Landes won an early break and later took four straight games to win the top match, 10-2. In the last match on the courts, Sarah Pyatt (Taos, N.M./Taos) and her CNR opponent held serve for six games before the Gryphon scored three break points in a 10-4 victory.

Sarah Lawrence continues its homestand on Friday, when the Gryphons host College of Staten Island at 6:30 p.m. at Andrews Tennis Courts.

BRONXVILLE, NY – The College of New Rochelle was defeated by Sarah Lawrence College in an HVIAC contest this evening at Andrews Tennis Courts.  The Blue Angels fall to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
 
Freshman Violet Lisi posted a strong performance for CNR at #4 singles, proving to be the toughest out in her matchup with Sarah Pyatt.
 
In doubles action, sophomores Deanna Tozzo and Zarie Ansari teamed up at #1 doubles to provide the best scoring opportunity for The College of New Rochelle.
