GLEN COVE, N.Y.—Backed by the first career hat trick of junior Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India/Inventure Academy), Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer picked up its first win of the season by beating Webb Institute, 5-1, in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Thorpe Field on Saturday.

Sarah Lawrence (1-3, 1-0 HVIAC) struck first blood in the fourth minute when rookie Roland Wynter (New York, N.Y./Lower Manhattan Arts Academy) notched SLC's first official goal of the season; Pujari assisted on the effort.

After the team's settled into a back-and-forth bout for most of the first half, Pujari surged in the 42nd minute and netted his first goal of the season to give the Gryphons a 2-0 advantage at the break.

Pujari came out quickly in the second half and scored another goal in the 48th minute, assisted by a pass off first-year player Xavier Leong (Nyack, N.Y./Nyack).

Following a hard Gryphon foul in the penalty area, Webb (0-1, 0-1 HVIAC) got on the scoreboard with a converted penalty kick by Ilya Mouravieff in the 60th minute.

With SLC still leading 3-1, Pujari found the back of the net for the third time in the 87th minute, assisted by a pass from first-year forward Sebiastiano Foresi. In the final minute, Foresi connected with senior Rodrigo Cuenca (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla Country Day), who put away his first goal of the season to make the final score 5-1.

Pujari's hat trick is the team's first since now-senior Philip Naess (New York, N.Y./United Nations International School) accomplished the feat against Medgar Evers on Sept. 12, 2011.

Sarah Lawrence next squares off on the road against Purchase College on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
