YONKERS, N.Y.—History was made on Wednesday, when Sarah Lawrence College women's soccer picked up the program's first win, as the Gryphons defeated St. Joseph's College Brooklyn, 1-0, in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Tibbetts Brook Park.

St. Joseph's Brooklyn (1-7, 1-2 HVIAC) attacked quickly, recording three shots in the first six minutes. Between the pipes, Sarah Lawrence (1-6, 1-2 HVIAC) relied on first-year keeper Addie Rosenberg (New York, N.Y./Fusion Academy), who tallied five saves in the first period and eight total in the game.

After a scoreless first half, junior Kaylen Dornan (San Diego, Calif./High Tech High International) broke the silence in the 56th minute. Following a Lady Bear foul 35 yards from the goal, Dornan's free kick was too much for keeper Nicole Farinella to deflect. With her first goal of the season, Dornan enters the SLC history book with the program's first game-winning goal.

Both goalies did well to keep the ball out of the net for the remainder of the period. SLC's Tori Close (Greenwich, Conn./Westtown School (Pa.))Shannon Sullivan (Templeton, Mass./Narragansett Regional) and Lissette Hazoury (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Carol Morgan School) all recorded shots but none were able to circumvent Farinella, who finished with three saves.

With the win, SLC also notched the program's first-ever shutout in its first season as a varsity team.

Sarah Lawrence has a week off before returning to the pitch to face St. Joseph's College Long Island on Tuesday on the road.

YONKERS, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team dropped a tightly contested 1-0 decision to Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Sarah Lawrence College on Wednesday night at Tibbetts Brook Park.

St. Joseph's (1-7, 1-2 HVIAC) has now lost three games in a row and falls below .500 in HVIAC for the first time this season while Sarah Lawrence (1-6, 1-2 HVIAC) picks up their first victory in school history in their first varsity season.

The game was tightly contested as neither team was able to break through in the first half. Each team had numerous scoring chances but the goalies shined with Lady Bears senior keeper Nicole Farinella (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport HS) making two saves and Gryphons goalkeeper Addie Rosenberg securing five saves in the period.

St. Joseph's had a 6-4 shot advantage with senior Cynthia Gambino (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) and junior Shannon Rom (Rockaway Point, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) leading the charge finishing with four of the six shots while sophomore Shannon Fahy(Breezy Point, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) recorded the Lady Bears other two shots.

The second half saw the action go back and forth with the Lady Bears recording the first scoring chance of the period when Rom fired a shot that was stopped by Rosenberg. Sarah Lawrence would end the scoreless tie in the 56th minute when Kaylen Dornan recorded her first goal of the season off a free kick that was too high for Farinella to handle.

St. Joseph's had other opportunities in the half but were unable to connect as Rosenberg made many key saves finishing the half with three saves and eight for the game in recording the shutout.

Gambino and Rom each led the Lady Bears with three shots on goal apiece while Farinella finished the night with three saves in a losing effort.

St. Joseph's returns to action on Saturday, October 5th hosting King's (N.Y.) in a HVIAC matchup at Brooklyn Technical High School. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
