Women's Soccer: Sarah Lawrence 6, Medgar Evers 0

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—Backed by goals from six different Gryphons, Sarah Lawrence College women's soccer toppled Medgar Evers College, 6-0, in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Old Boys & Girls High School Field on Monday.

Sarah Lawrence (2-9, 2-2 HVIAC) got on the scoreboard in just the third minute of the game. Junior Kaylen Dornan (San Diego, Calif./High Tech High International) netted her second goal of the season, snapping a streak of 300 scoreless minutes for the Gryphons.

In the sixth minute, rookie defender Sadie Zavgren (Wilton, N.H./Homeschooled) doubled the Green and White lead with her first career goal.
Leading 2-0, Gryphon Bri Solo (Laguna Beach, Calif./Trabuco Hills) put away a third goal for Sarah Lawrence, scoring 36 seconds after Zavgren. First-year player Lauren Hargrove (Los Angeles, Calif./South Bay Faith Acad.) followed with a score in the 10th minute of the game.

The Sarah Lawrence offensive pressure continued into the 12th minute, when senior Sofie Jokela (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) put away her first career goal. In the 22nd minute, junior Caroline Kjellberg (New York, N.Y./Homeschooled) capped off the scoring with her first goal of the year.

Medgar Evers (0-11, 0-5 HVIAC) was held without a shot in the game; Cougar keeper Marlene Thompson notched seven saves in goal.

With the win, SLC moves closer to securing a HVIAC tournament berth in the team's first year as a varsity program. Sarah Lawrence can secure a place in the tournament with a win over Berkeley College on Wednesday or a victory over Yeshiva University on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

On Wednesday, the Gryphons host Berkeley at Tibbetts Brook Park at 7 p.m., rounding out a whirlwind schedule of five games in a span of nine days.
