NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The College of New Rochelle hosted the Blue Angel tri-match this afternoon at the Wellness Center.  The Blue Angels defeated new HVIAC foe The King's College, 3-1 in their conference opener before falling to Albertus Magnus College in the finale.
 
Against King's Meghan King tallied team-highs with 14 kills and five aces, adding 20 digs.  Marissa Armstrong recorded 12 kills, Indigo Flowers handed out a match-high 31 assists, and Diana Desir dug a match-high 22 balls.  The win, the Blue Angels' fifth in a row, matches their longest streak since the 2011 season.
 
After posting a wire-to-wire win in the first set, 25-17, King's began to wear down CNR, taking its first lead of the match at 11-10, following a service ace.  With the score tied at 18-18, the Blue Angels scored the next six points, all with King serving, to take a 24-19 lead, eventually taking the second set, 25-22.
 
In the third set, the Lions to advantage of several CNR miscues, opening up a 19-6 lead in winning the set, 25-13, and pulling within one set, 2-1.
 
CNR closed out the match in the fourth set.  Holding a slim, 16-15 lead, King gained the serve with a kill, then served five straight point, including two aces, to open up a 23-16 lead. The Blue Angels took the set, 25-20, and the match, 3-1.
 
Things did not go as well against Albertus Magnus, as the Falcons took a straight set win to snap the CNR win streak.
 
King and Armstrong each recorded six kills, while digging 14 and eight balls, respectively.  Flowers chipped in with 13 assists.
 
The first set was a see-saw affair until, with the Flacons holding a 11-10 lead, Albertus Magnus closed out the set with a 14-5 run, bookended by 5-0 runs.
 
Albertus Magnus changed a 2-2 tie early in the second set into a 16-7 advantage courtesy of a 14-5 run, and pulled away for the 25-15 win.
 
The Falcons closed out the match with a decisive opening to the third set.  With Lily Dy serving, the Falcons scored the first 10 points of the match, including four aces, and extended to advantage to as many as 16, 22-6, before reaching the 25-11 final.
