Women's Volleyball: New Rochelle 3, Sarah Lawrence 0

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – With her fifth kill of the match, junior co-captain Meghan King (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) became just the second Blue Angel to reach the 500 career kill mark.  King finished with a match-high 11 kills in The College of New Rochelle's 3-0 HVIAC win over Sarah Lawrence and now has 506 for her career.

King added nine digs and three aces to her milestone night.  Indigo Flowers handed out a match-high 21 assists and served a match-high seven aces, while Tiany Perez Diazdug up a team-high 11 balls.
 
The Blue Angels broke open the first set with a 5-0 run to turn a 11-8 lead into a 16-8 lead.  CNR closed out the first set with another 5-0 run, with King's 500th kill giving the Blue Angels set point at 24-17.
 
The second set began with a 8-0 CNR run, including four Flowers aces and the Gryphons did not get closer than five the rest of the set as the Blue Angels earned a 25-19 win and 2-0 lead in the match.
 
Holding a 10-4 lead in the third set, the Blue Angels saw their lead vanish as Sarah Lawrence put together a  6-0 run to knot the score at 10-10 and took two one point leads before The College of New Rochelle was able to regain the lead for good at 14-13.  The Blue Angels held off the Gryphons the rest of the way for a 25-22 win.
 
With the win, the Blue Angels' fifth in a row, CNR remains unbeaten in HVIAC play at 4-0 and move into a first place tie with Culinary atop the conference standings.  The Blue Angels improve to 12-7 overall and 5-1 at the Wellness Center

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball was defeated by College of New Rochelle, 3-0, in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at the CNR Wellness Center on Tuesday.

Sarah Lawrence (2-14, 1-3 HVIAC) scored the opening point of the match, but New Rochelle (12-7, 4-0 HVIAC) jumped out to a 16-8 lead. The Gryphons reeled in the gap at 20-17, but the Blue Angels scored five unanswered points to close out a 25-17 set.

In the second set, CNR tallied eight straight points to start the set, and SLC never closed the gap to fewer than five points in the 25-19 set.

The final frame saw the Blue Angels use a 6-0 run to take a 10-4 advantage, but two service aces and a kill by Gryphon Kitty O'Sullivan (Los Angeles, Calif./Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy) helped erase the deficit. With the squads deadlocked at 13-13, CNR scored three go-ahead points, and the Green and White were unable to respond. The teams played back-and-forth volleyball until CNR closed out the match, 25-22.

For the fourth straight match, middle blocker Jomana Abdallah (Los Angeles, Calif./Fairmont Prep Academy) led the Gryphon attack; the sophomore posted a team-high seven kills. O'Sullivan finished with six kills, 11 digs and two service aces, while setter Janet Tonyan (McHenry, Ill./McHenry) notched a double-double with 16 assists and a match-high 12 digs.

On the other side of the net, Meghan King led the CNR offense with 11 kills, while Tiany Perez Diaz anchored the defense with 11 digs.

Sarah Lawrence returns to the court with a trip to Brooklyn College on Thursday. The Gryphons return home to host Lehman College in a 7 p.m. match on Friday at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center.
