The Berkeley College New York men's soccer team powered its way to its fifth consecutive victory on Wednesday evening, turning back the Webbies of Webb Institute by a score of 8-1 in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match played at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, NY. With the win, the Knights improved to a mark of 5-1 overall and 2-0 in HVIAC play, while Webb dipped to 0-3 on the year (0-3 HVIAC).

The Knights used a complete team effort to build a comfortable lead in the first session. Victor Marotta notched Berkeley's first goal at the 5:05 mark, burying the ball into the net off of a cross from teammate Sebastian Rousseau. 8:20 later, Rousseau netted a goal on a breakaway (after receiving a pass from Marotta) to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Knights. Over the course of the next 18:42 of action, Berkeley notched five goals, including another by Marotta, two by first-year standout Pamir Aysan, and a tally apiece from Aboubacar Sogoba and Mathias Valle. At the half, the Knights led 7-0.

In the second half, Webb Institute broke the shutout at the 52:53 mark when Ryan Chozick netted an unassisted goal on a broken play in the box to make the score 7-1 in favor of the Knights. Later – at the 69:13 mark – Berkeley's Aysan scored the final goal of the evening off a pass into the box from 30 yards out by teammate Daniel Flores. At that point, the Knights took an 8-1 lead, an advantage they would not relinquish. Following the match, Head Coach Stavros Zomopoulos gave his thoughts.

"We used a complete team effort this evening to solidify this victory, and I'm proud of our group," Zomopoulos said. "Our goal is to continue to improve as the season progresses, and we'll look to continue to do that on Saturday against Davis College in another conference match."

Berkeley dominated in the shots category, registering 25 on the evening compared to just five for the Webbies. The Knights had nine corner kick opportunities while Webb Institute did not have any. The Webbies where whistled for eight fouls on the evening compared to five for Berkeley.

Daniel Flores started in the net for the Knights, as he played 28:15 and didn't allow a goal while not facing a shot. He was relieved by Renzo Loaiza who played the final 61:45 and made one save while allowing one goal.

Berkeley will return to action on Saturday afternoon, as the Knights will take on Davis College in another Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match. The match will take place at the College of Staten Island at 3:30pm.
