The Berkeley College New York men's soccer team put an exclamation point on their impressive 2015 regular season as the Knights turned back the Warriors of Vaughn College by a score of 3-0 Tuesday afternoon in a contest played at Randall's Island. With the victory, the Knights improved to a record of 12-5 on the year, and finished with a perfect 7-0 record in HVIAC contests. Vaughn wrapped-up its regular season with an overall mark of 2-7-2, and finished 2-3-2 in HVIAC play.

After the teams played 42 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Knights struck for the opening goal in the 43rd minute (42:30) when Solomon Ahanaonu collected a pass from Victor Marottabefore burying the ball into the goal to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. Berkeley extended its advantage to a pair of goals in the 58th minute (at 57:12) when Ali Dahwa found the back of the net (off of a pass from Efe Surozu). At that point, the Knights held a 2-0 lead and were in full control.

A little over 22 minutes after Dahwa's goal, the Knights put the game away in the 80th minute of play when standout Hasan Sezer – who scored four goals this past Saturday evening in the Knights' 5-2 win over Albany College of Pharmacy – netted a goal to give Berkeley a 3-0 lead. Marotta picked up his second assist of the day on Sezer's tally.

Berkeley College netminders Masahiro Kiuchi and Luisa Cadena combined for a shutout, with Kiuchi logging the first 65 minutes of action and making three saves and Cadena playing the final 25 minutes and not facing a shot. Following Berkeley's win, Head Coach Stavros Zomopoulos gave his thoughts.

"This was a very good victory for us, as we finished our regular season undefeated in conference play at 7-0, and now we are heading into the HVIAC tournament with a tremendous amount of confidence," Zomopoulos said. "We feel that we have a great chance to accomplish something special this weekend, and we will give it our best shot."

The Knights out-shot Vaughn College 11-5 on the afternoon, while also getting seven corner kick opportunities compared to just one for the warriors. Both teams were whistled for seven fouls apiece.

Berkeley College will enter the 2015 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament as the No. 1 seed, and the Knights will take on the No. 4 seeded Warriors of Vaughn College. The tournament will take place on the campus of Albany College of Pharmacy. Start time for the Knights' match with the Warriors is scheduled for 11:00am.
