The ACPHS Panthers defeated the Culinary Institute Steels 82-47. With the victory, the Panthers are now 4-10 overall and 3-1 in the HVIAC. Culinary drops to 1-12 and 0-6 respectively.
APCHS scored the first five points, with Culinary tying it up 5-5 on the next two possessions. After that, the Panthers would never look back, ripping off an 8-0 run to make the score 13-5. They would record one more 8-0 run and a 9-0 run later in the half, and took a 51-21 advantage into the break. The stars of the half were freshmen John Ambert and Keith Irving (Glens Falls, NY / Queensbury High). Ambert did not record a point, but dropped seven dimes in just nine minutes. The recipient of three Ambert assists, Irving led all scorers with 13 points on 6-7 shooting. Right behind him was Alex Johnson (Malone, NY) who scored eight points and added four rebounds. The Panthers held the Steel to just seven made field goals and outscored CIA 28-6 in the paint.
The 2nd half was more of the same, as the Panthers extend their already healthy lead. All 15 active Panthers got at least eight minutes of game time. In the end, Irving finished with 16 and Nathan Beltran scored 13. ACPHS out rebound the Steel 64-42, and got 29 points off of the 21 CIA turnovers. Culinary's Vincent Dunbar finished with a game-high 20 in a losing effort. At the time of this writing, ACPHS is 4th in the HVIAC.
ACPHS has another HVIAC tilt on deck as they're scheduled to travel to the 2-2 College of New Rochelle Blue Angels on Friday, January 27th at 8:00pm, while CIA hosts non-league foe Cooper Union on Sunday, January 29th at 1:00pm.
