Men's Basketball: Berkeley 119, Pratt 53

Seven players scored in double figures for the Berkeley College men's basketball team as the Knights defeated the Cannoneers of Pratt Institute by a score of 119-53 in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Thursday evening. The game was played at the Pratt ARC in Brooklyn, NY. With the win, the Knights are now 19-0 on the 2016-2017 campaign, and have won a whopping 43 consecutive games as a program. The Cannoneers slipped to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in league play with the loss.

Ricardo Ayuso led the way for the Knights, as he connected on six shots from downtown to finish with a team-high 18 points. He also grabbed four rebounds and recorded two assists. Stephon Jennings contributed 16 points and nine rebounds, and Reynaldo Eloy drained five three-point baskets to finish with 15 points, five assists, and three rebounds.

Also playing a key role in the victory for Berkeley College was Ian Charles, as he netted 14 points and snatched three rebounds. Brandon BermeoJeffrey Mejia, and Dondre Simmons added 12, 11, and 10 points, respectively.

It was complete domination for the Knights, as Berkeley College connected on a staggering 14 shots from beyond the arc while shooting 56 percent from the floor for the night (51-91). Pratt Institute converted on just 30.9 percent of its shot opportunities (21-68). The Knights out-rebounding the Cannoneers 62-30, and Berkeley College committed just 10 turnovers on the evening while forcing 23 opposition mistakes.

Despite the loss for Pratt Institute, Ari Grant put forth a tremendous effort, pouring in a game-high 26 points while posting a contest-best 17 rebounds. He also swatted three shots and added two assists. Andrew Yaglenski contributed 12 points and two rebounds in a losing effort.

The Knights will now have two days off before returning to action on Sunday, as Berkeley College will play host to NHTI at the Wellness Center on the campus of the College of New Rochelle. Start-time for the game is scheduled for 3:00pm.

BROOKLYN – Senior Ari Grant matched a season-high with 26 points and added 17 rebounds, but the Cannoneers were unable to overcome a sharp-shooting Berkeley College team that connected on 14 three-pointers, ultimately falling, 119-53, Thursday evening at the Pratt ARC.

The loss extended the Cannoneers' losing streak to five games.

Andrew Yaglenski added 12 points for Pratt, who fell to 4-6 (1-2) dropping to sixth place in HVIAC standings.

Berkeley College was led by Ricardo Ayuso's 18 points and Stephon Jennings tallied 16 as the Knights saw seven different players record double figures. The win improved Berkeley's record to 18-0 (4-0) as their winning streak has grown to staggering 43 games.

Threes by both Yaglenski and Vishal Vanka gave Pratt and early 6-4 lead. The Knights emerged from their early offensive woes to ignite a 15-0 run before 5 straight points by Grant got the Cannoneers back in the game. Back-to-back jumpers by Eric Jeon helped Pratt get within 11 at 31-20, but the home team would get no closer during the evening. Eight three-points over a span of five minutes gave Berkeley all the offense they needed as they opened a 66-27 lead at intermission.  

The Knights would continue their offensive dominance in the second stanza, scoring 63 points. Their defense held Pratt scoreless for nearly six minutes, allowing only 26 second-half points as the Cannoneers suffered their worst loss of the season.
