ACPHS freshman guard Kyle Matousek exploded for 30 first half points, tying a school record with nine made threes and leading the Panthers to a 104-48 win over HVIAC foe Pratt Institute. The victory ups Albany to a tie for 4th place in the HVIAC at 4-2 and 5-11 overall. The Cannoneers are now 4-8 overall and 2-3 in the league.

Pratt looked like they would make a game of it early, scoring the games' first six points off of threes from Bubby Vernon and Andrew Yaglenski. It was not in the cards though, as Matousek began to take over shortly thereafter. The Panthers went on an 18-0 run, anchored by four threes from Matousek in just 4:30 of game time. The Cannoneers got their tally up to 10 with eleven minutes to play in the half, but ACPHS, led by Matousek, ripped off a 15-0 run capped off by a three from freshman Naythan Beltran. ACPHS went into the half up 49-16 and only extended their lead in the following half, outscoring the Cannoneers 55-32. In the 1st, Matousek recorded an absurdly efficient 10 of 13 shooting including 9 of 10 from three. He cooled down in the 2nd, wrapping up the game a career-high 33 points and two assists in 23 minutes.

The Panthers were able to get some run for everybody on their roster, with each player scoring at least one field goal except freshman Keith Irving (Glens Falls, NY / Queensbury High), who still added two assists. ACPHS dominated in all facets, out-rebounding the Cannoneers 57-30, shooting 54.4% (43-79), and holding Pratt to just 26.2% from the field (16-61).

Up next for both teams: ACPHS heads to Vaughn College in Flushing, NY this Saturday, February 4th for an HVIAC matchup at 3pm, while Pratt hosts SUNY-ESF Friday, February, 3rd at 8:30pm.

ALBANY, NY  The Pratt Institute men's basketball team couldn't find any rhythm offensively and fell Sunday afternoon at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, 104-48.

Albany Pharmacy improved to 5-10 (4-1 HVIAC), while the loss drops the Cannoneers' record to 5-8 (2-3 HVIAC) overall. The Panthers, which entered the day ranked third in the conference in scoring defense, limited Pratt to both its lowest point total (48) and lowest field goal percentage (26.2) of the season.

Junior guard Andrew Yaglenski was the Cannoneers' high scorer with 14 points, including three 3-pointers. Vishal Vanka contributed nine points with Bubby Vernon and Ari Grant each chipping in eight.

Albany Pharmacy's Kyle Matousek scored a game-high 33 points with all but three coming in the first half. The Panthers finished the day shooting 54.4 percent, including 15-of-28 from behind the arc, and controlled the glass with a 57-30 rebounding advantage.

Consecutive threes by Vernon and Yaglenski opened the scoring and saw Pratt take an early 6-0 lead. The host Panthers proceeded to orchestrate an 18-0 run over the next six and a half minutes until Grant's dunk stopped the bleeding. Albany's defensive pressure kept Pratt off the scoreboard for a majority of the first half, holding the Cannoneers to just six field goals as it built a 49-16 halftime lead.

Albany Pharmacy did not let up in the second half and led by as much as 94-33 with 4:45 remaining. Yaglenski knocked down a pair of three-pointers midway through the frame as Pratt tried to build momentum, but each time Albany Pharmacy responded to maintain its margin.

Pratt returns to action Friday, February 3 at the Pratt ARC against SUNY ESF. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 pm.
