The Vaughn College men's basketball team defeated The College of New Rochelle Blue Angels on Thursday, January 19. Both teams competed at a high level and gave tremendous effort in the fun and exciting fast-paced game.
The Warriors were able to maintain their focus despite the hostile Blue Angels' crowd. Vaughn College dominated the glass out-rebounding the Blue Angels 55-44. The game had seven ties and 11 lead changes. The Warriors made all the key plays on offense and defense in the closing minutes of the game enroute to a 75-70 victory.
Ian Parker (Yonkers, NY) led the way for the men's basketball team. Parker finished the game with a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Kevin Vanderpool (Yonkers, NY) scored 17 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out 4 assists. Michael Pena (Dumont, NJ) connected on three triples in the game tallying 17 points.
The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, January 19, when they face HVIAC opponent The Kings College (NY) at 5 p.m. The game will be played at Baruch College.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - It was a key battle between two of the league's top teams. Both were chasing league leader Berkeley (3-0) in the standings. For the packed house, it was a tight contest from start to finish, but when the buzzer sounded, the College of New Rochelle Men's Basketball team was defeated by Vaughn College 75-70 Thursday night in the Wellness Center.
CNR falls to 2-2 in the league and 7-10 overall, Vaughn is now 2-0 in the conference and 8-3 overall.
Freshmen Matthew Dean (Marlboro, NJ) poured in a game-high 23 points, for his 10th straight double digit output this season. Freshmen Glen O'Loughlin (Yorktown Heights, NY) added 15 while freshmen Elijah Harris (Flushing, NY) chipped in 13 for the Blue Angels. Junior Jack Tisdale (Dayton, OH) led CNR with five steals and four helpers.
Vaughn was able to hold CNR's leading scorer Hunter Schenkel (Sayville, NY) under his average (18.2) with just seven points. The Warriors were led Ian Parker who threw in 20 and grabbed 13 boards. Lamink Barr pulled down a game-best 15 rebounds, pacing Vaughn to a 55-44 lead for the game.
With 25 seconds left Schenkel hit a jumper to make it 68-65, but was forced to foul down the stretch. After two Michael Pena free throws for Vaughn, Schenkel hit a three to make it 73-70 with 6 ticks left. But Vaughn made the next two free throws and CNR was unable to score again.
CNR shot a season best 88% from the line, but was outshot from the field 38 to 32%. CNR made only 14 miscues to Vaughn's 20.
CNR will resume HVIAC league play Saturday when they host Pratt at 3pm, as part of a double-header.
