Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week (Week #1)

The Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference recognizes the following Student-Athletes for their performance in Week #1 of the 2023-2024 Men's and Women's Basketball season.

This week the honor of Men's Basketball Player of the Week goes to Kenny Pitt from Berkeley College. Pitt scored 32 points connecting on 15 of 26 shot attempts, grabbed 5 boards, blocked 3 shots, and stole the ball twice against USCAA opponent, Vermont State University, Randolph. 

Tyler Bond of Five Towns College also shares in the honor of Player of the Week for Week #1. Bond averaged 25 points, 5 assists, and 6 rebounds in two games for the Sound. Five Towns College is currently 1-1.

Josiah Mitchener from Berkeley College has been selected as Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for Week #1. Mitchener scored 7 points, dished out 6 assists, grabbed 3 boards, and stole the ball twice in a Knights victory against Vaughn College. 

Notable performances came from, Kevon Leary of Berkeley College and Damario Jones from Villa Maria College. Leary dropped 19 points, registered 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals against USCAA opponent, Vaughn College. Jones scored 21 points, grabbed 7 boards, dished out 3 assists, and stole the ball once against the Community College of Beaver County.

 

On the Women's Basketball side of the HVIAC for Week #1, the honors for Berkeley College and Five Towns College continue.

 Kelsy Villanueva of Berkeley College is selected as Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Villanueva is averaging 22.3 ppg.and 14.5 reb., posting double-doubles for every game the Knights have played since the beginning of the 2023-2024 season.

Jordan Tobin, from Five Towns College shares the honor of Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Week #1. Tobin posted double-doubles averaging 29 ppg. and 13.5 rpg. in two victories for the Sound.

Jimmia Green from Villa Maria College earns the honor of Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week. In her first intercollegiate game, Green scored 8 points and grabbed 20 rebounds.

A notworthy performance from Shaughnessy Bennett of Villa Maria College for scoring 19 points and 8 rebounds in the Vikings second game of the 2023-2024 season.
